While people think that Obama’s visit to
Indonesia is very special, I cannot have the same opinion. For me, his visit is
just like other presidents’ visit. Moreover, nothing is special on his coming
for he resembles his formers, except his skin.
Because Obama had lived in Indonesia, it
does not mean he is like Indonesian. Probably he loves several things about Indonesia,
but I cannot believe he loves our country. He was only accidentally brought by
his parents. Furthermore, it might happen to everyone, especially for those who
have parents with different nationality.
People in Indonesia really hope that he
will become a different American president, especially about his policy on our
country because he had special memory on Indonesia. However, as we observe, he
is just like his formers. In economy, Indonesia is only a perfect place to
invest, not more. In education, even though he promised us to give more
scholarship to Indonesian students, I cannot believe that it would be taken for
granted. In addition, in politics, I believe America plays important role on
our political life. For example, every time we need to get loan from IMF,
America will always give his bargain in our politics.
Be wise. I guess that is the best
suggestion for us dealing Obama’s visit. Probably the change that he promised
is good for his own country, but not for every country. Sometimes, we overrate him
considering his previous life in Indonesia that could make him as wise as
Indonesian, for instance our attitude towards our brothers and sisters in
Afganisthan or Iraq. Obama’s view, just like his formers’ is the same that
military is still needed there. It is contrary to his promise when he delivered
his champagne that he would soon send the military troops back to America.
